Richard E. Gasaway, 59 of Scottsburg, Indiana, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's Healthcare in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on October 22, 1950 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the son of the late Merrill and Wanda (Robbins) Gasaway. Richard was a retired welder and team leader at Cummins Engine Company for 31 years, retiring in 1999, a member of the Austin First Baptist Church, U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in the Ranger Airborne and was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, a 1968 graduate of Austin High School, member of the Moose Family Center # 2324, American Legion Post # 234 and a lifetime member of the Scott County V.F.W. Post # 6582. Survivors include his wife, Barbara A. (Hundley) Gasaway; two daughters, Sherrye R. Marshall of Madison, Indiana and Brandi L. (Jim) Feltner of North Aurora, Illinois; a son, Lowell Gasaway of Whittier, North Carolina; three stepdaughters, Michelle Thompson and Tracy (Stanley) Lisy both of Scottsburg, Indiana and Bethany (Amos, Jr.) Johnson of Austin, Indiana; a sister, Bonnie (James) Raichel of Austin, Indiana and seven grandchildren, Laney, Luke, Stephen, Derrick, Cody, Joshua and Zachary. Richard was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Melburn and Russell W. Gasaway. Cremation was chosen. A Celebration of his Life will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.
