Martha Margaret Shepherd, age 94, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2010 in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin and lived at Morning Pointe for the past three years. She was born February 3, 1916 in Johnson County, White River Township to Jacob D. and Anna (McCarty) Shepherd. She is survived by nieces and nephews Joyce (Bob) Taylor of Plainfield; Roberta (Ted) Wiegand of Franklin; Paula (Charley) Giesman of Evansville; Dan (Nancy) Shepherd of Florida and Don (Millie) Hollandbeck of Arizona. She was preceded in passing by her parents, three sisters Lillian Hollandbeck, Esther Hollandbeck and Faye Steinbarger and two brothers the Rev. David Shepherd and Victor Shepherd and one niece Sylvia Kirksey. She was a graduate of Center Grove Schools and received her bachelor and master degrees in Education from Indiana Central, now University of Indianapolis. Martha was a school teacher, teaching in Johnson and Shelby counties. She was employed at Clark-Pleasant Schools, retiring after several years of service. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin and was active in her Naomi Circle. She also was a member of BPW, Retired Teachers Association, Franklin Order of Eastern Star No. 439 and the Franklin Senior Center. Martha volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed traveling. A service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 289 North Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call on Wednesday, March 31st from 11:00 a.m. to time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Franklin. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 East Adams Drive, Franklin, Indiana 46131.
