Dr. Ronald Lee Montgomery, Ph.D., age 73, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2010. He was a resident of Indianapolis. Ron was a father, best friend, Professor, Lecturer, Therapist and Writer. Ron was born on May 1, 1936 in Franklin to Paul Easton Montgomery and Susie Harvey. He is survived by his Sweetheart of twenty years Linda Porter of Indianapolis and his children Mitch of Indianapolis, Mark of Indianapolis and Lora (Reggie) McGuire of Indianapolis. Also surviving are grandchildren, Brittney, Samantha, Morgan, Miles, Olivia, Kiyah, Avery, Laila, Maxwell and David; siblings, Ann Guidry and Stanley Montgomery and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in passing by siblings, Nina Wallace, Paul and John Montgomery; Norma Jean Birdwell, & Joyce Evans-Foulkes and granddaughter Loryn. Ron's education included Franklin College, 1962-A.B. Psychology; Indiana University, 1964 - M.A. Social Services; Smith College School of Social Work, 1970 and Brandeis University, 1980 - Ph.D of Social Welfare. He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class. From 1966 to 1970, he was Assistant Professor of Sociology at Franklin University; 1971 to 1977 he was Assistant Professor of Social Work at Rhode Island College; 1977 to 1980, he served as Director and Associate Professor of the Social Work Program at Illinois State University; Coordinator of Undergrad Education and Associate Professor at Indiana University School of Social Work. From 1977-1980 he was at Illinois State. In 1980 he was Coordinator of Undergrad Education and Associate Professor at I.U. School of Social Work and family therapist with New Choices of Kokomo. He was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Academy of Certified Social Workers, Council on Social Work Education, Indiana Associate for Social Work Education and Association of BSW Program Directors. He received the Community Service Award of Greater Indianapolis, the Children's Bureau Fellowship and the VA Fellowship. Pastor Irvin French will conduct a celebration of life service on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donors' choice in Ron's honor. The family would like to thank all healthcare professionals for your kindness and care in our time of need.
