Willard L. "Bud" Smith, 89, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. He was a resident of the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. He was born on August 5, 1920 in Parker City, Indiana to Elmer and Mabel (Deeds) Smith. He married Lavonne "Bonnie" Bland on March 29, 1947. She survives. Other survivors include his sons Dan Smith (Donna), Don Smith (Donna), Tom Smith (Babs), Tony Smith (Nancy), Scott Smith (Kelly); sister Mayann Donovan; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by his parents; sister Jule Annetta Morgan; and daughter in law Linda Worrell Smith. He attended Parker City High School graduating in 1938. Bud served in the U.S. Army as a T/Sgt. He was a Tank Mechanic for the 638 Tank Destroyer Battalion in the European Theater during World War II. He was a supervisor for the Beech Grove post office branch. He retired on August 6, 1982 after 20 years of service. Bud was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch # 39. He was a 50 year member of the Beech Grove Masonic Lodge. Rev. Charles Stanley will conduct a service on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 2:00pm at the Indiana Masonic Home Ransford Chapel. Friends may call from 12:00pm until the service time at 2:00pm. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Hospice, 438 S. Emerson Ave. Greenwood, Indiana 46143.
